The Muddies were a group of sailors from Redwood City who, around 1990, formed a virtual yacht club connected via an internet mailing list. The muddies met for regular Friday night sails in the South Bay, occasionally ending in a night at anchor in one of the Redwood City sloughs spinning yarns and singing songs. In 1993, the Muddies joined with others from rec.boats to form the CyberCruisers.
